One of my favorite portable antennas is the Buddipole from www.buddipole.com. It is a system of aluminum tubes, tappable coils and telescoping whips that works out of the box from 40 meters to 2 meters and beyond. It is based on 3/8-24 threaded studs and so can be combined with other antenna parts to make a tinkertoy like antenna kit.

One of the important aspects of any product is the company that supports it, and the people behind that company. Budd and Chris provide an excellent level of product support and service, and the reviews at eHam as well as the comments on the Yahoo BUG list clearly show that.

There is a homemade version of the Buddipole, the one that Budd originally developed, and plans for building one are on qsl.net:

I designed an improved Balun for the Buddipole, and they now market it as the Triple Ratio Switch Balun, or TRSB.

It would be interesting to collect some Buddipole related information here on the Wiki. Settings, Variations, etc. This type of content goes by on the BUG list (on Yahoo) but a list is not a good thing to capture or find things later on. Let me know if you have anything you want to publish here on the Wiki. We will make more Buddipole Pages as needed.
