Efficient Lighting
There are many needs for efficient lighting. There is also a lot of misinformation about lighting efficiency.
Fluorescents are generally the best, but the RFI generated can be a problem. Fluorescents have moderate to high efficiency and produce a lot of light per fixture/bulb $.
LED lighting is very expensive and the efficiency ranges from low (about that of incandescent) to approaching that of the better fluorescents. They can be RFI free, however some use high frequency switching and could generate RFI. LEDs are best for spot task lighting or low level lighting (night lights, step lights, etc). LEDs have the highest cost for fixtures/bulbs. The higher output and efficiency LED bulbs such as Luxeons also have very high cost.
Low cost LEDs are often short lived. Many reports of LED failures are concerning. They generally don't have proper current regulation and this may be a factor.
