- This would be my choice, assuming we go somewhere good for the VHF contest, like a rare grid square. Perhaps an opportunity to set up the big 6 meter beam? Hmmm... the FD 2006 site FdSite is in DM08... - de WB6W
- Note that Glenn's comment above is taken somewhat out of context since I deleted other material in the thread, but his comment seemed worth leaving - He preferred a better VHF site. We just did not have enough interest for two trips so the compromise was to use FdSite for VHF SS weekend.

We have been talking about doing another campout. After discussion (and silence) the weekend after Labor Day has been chosen. We will use the FD2006
FdSite. This is VHF SS weekend. The details of this site location, directions, etc are available to members of this wiki via the
FdSite link.

We have been talking about doing another campout. Shall we plan something? When? Where?
This is beginning to look like two outings:
- Alan wants to do a FD type prep/test trip
- Glenn wants to do VHF SS trip
I think I'd rather go somewhere else, possibly at a higher altitude so it will be cooler. I guess it depends on if this is to be a FD site checkout, VHF contest or simply a social gathering - de WB6W
It is what we make it. If we go for the VHF contest, it would be better to go elsewhere, as the contest will distract us from any HF/Field Day preparations. If we want to think about Field Day we might go to the FD site and avoid contesting (ourselves) so we can focus on mapping, planning, perhaps trying a different antenna setup. Having an hf contest going on could be useful for testing antennas, provided we don't get too involved timewise. AlanB
People should put their thoughts into this calendar, state availability, etc, or enter notes at the bottom of the page, as is most appropriate. Check the notes for updates, they are probably the best place for discussion, whereas the page is best for calendar etc. Sign your lines on the web page so we can tell easily who did what.
Proposals for Dates:
- Aug 26-27: Nothing (major) happening radio-wise this weekend, but it's listed here because of all the things it isn't:
- It's not a holiday weekend (this is a good thing traffic-wise).
- It's not a big contest weekend -- we could play with any antenna, band or mode we like.
- It's far enough out in time that our wives/significant others probably haven't scheduled something else for us yet!
- This may be a good choice for the FD Prep trip - far enough away from VHF SS. AlanB
- Contests this weekend (some minor ones): (AlanB)
- ALARA Contest 0600Z, Aug 26 to 1159Z, Aug 27
- Hawaii QSO Party 0700Z, Aug 26 to 2200Z, Aug 27
- Keyman's Club of Japan Contest 1200Z, Aug 26 to 1200Z, Aug 27
- YO DX HF Contest 1200Z, Aug 26 to 1200Z, Aug 27
- SCC RTTY Championship 1200Z, Aug 26 to 1159Z, Aug 27
- Ohio QSO Party 1600Z, Aug 26 to 0400Z, Aug 27
- SARL HF CW Contest 1300Z-1600Z, Aug 27
- Kentucky QSO Party 1600Z, Aug 27 to 0400Z, Aug 28
- Sep 2-4: This is Labor Day weekend, which means people may have plans.
- One significant downside to this weekend is that traffic is likely to be pretty ugly on Monday (Sep 4th).
- This could be a good choice. We don't have to leave late Monday. I would take Friday off and travel up early Friday. Maybe even mid-thursday. And return Early Monday. The problem with it is the proximity to VHF SS. I'd like to see at least 2 weeks between these outings. We normally have a club campout to attend this weekend, but this year we haven't committed to that. AlanB
- Is DM08 a rare gridsquare? The site further up the road looked pretty decent for VHF, not so good for Camping. AlanB
- Yup, not many folks in DM08. Major towns all small, Minden, Hawthorn, Tonapah (NV), Bridgeport , Lee Vining, Bishop (CA). - de wb6w
- Sept 15-17 Fresno Hamfest
- Rifle Deer Season Opens in Zone D6 Sept 16 (starts 3rd Sat, 44 days long) I don't think we want to be in the National Forest during rifle season playing radio.
- AlanB busy at hamfest
- Sept 22-24 San Diego Hamfest
- still Deer season
- AlanB busy at hamfest
- Oct 13-15 is Pacificon per the web site at http://www.pacificon.org/∞ - de WB6W
