Field Day is an annual event that involves more Amateur (Ham) Radio operators than any other event. On this weekend (the weekend of the fourth Saturday in June), Hams in the US and elsewhere take to the field, setting up stations in public parks, Emergency Operations Centers and elsewhere. They operate from emergency power and contact as many other stations as they can. It is a simulation of operations in emergency conditions, which prepares them for disasters such as Katrina. Thus these operators gain experience deploying and using their equipment in less than ideal field conditions while having some fun.

NOTE to ARRL: Consider having a fixed page for Field Day. The content can be updated each year and contain public introductory info and links to the annual rules pages, etc. This would facilitate all other sites linking to the ARRL Field Day master page which in turn would navigate to all the FD resources. A vote for Stability of URLs! Thanks, they did it!!!

Unfortunately, ARRL does not have a stationary web page for Field Day that I can find, so it keeps changing from year to year. They consider it not quite a Contest, so it is hard to find on their site. Amazing, for it is the biggest participation operating event of the year in Amateur Radio!!
